Why NFC Antenna Performance Changes After Device Integration
NFC Performance Is Often an Integration Problem An NFC antenna may perform well during initial testing but behave very differently after it is installed inside the final product. This is one of the most common issues in NFC system development. NFC operates at 13.56 MHz and relies primarily on near-field magnetic coupling. Unlike many conventional wireless systems, where engineers focus heavily on far-field radiation, NFC performance depends strongly on the relationship between the antenna coil, matching network, nearby materials and the reader or tag environment. This means an NFC antenna cannot always be evaluated as an isolated component. A design that works well in free space may experience reduced communication distance, unstable detection or detuning once it is placed near a battery, metal frame, display, PCB or mechanical housing. For this reason, antenna integration should be considered early in the device design process. Why Metal Has Such a Strong Effect on NFC Antenna...
